Great Lakes Adaptation Forum

OvervieW

The National Adaptation Forum (NAF) is hosted every other year to convene community leaders, policy and decision makers, researchers, and others working actively on climate adaptation and resilience across the country. In the off years, some areas of the country host regional adaptation forums to focus on regionally relevant adaptation issues and collaborative solutions.

The Great Lakes Adaptation Forum (GLAF) served as the regional adaptation forum in 2014, 2016, and 2018. In 2023 the regional forum, now referred to as the Midwest Climate Resilience Conference (MCRC), will be held in Duluth, MN on October 25-27, 2023. Although the forum has a new name and leadership, the program still intends to convene the regional adaptation community to share strategies and approaches to climate adaptation in an engaged learning format.

Leadership

Historically, GLISA led GLAF convenings with co-leadership from partners including the American Society of Adaptation (ASAP). Now, GLISA is the Lead Platinum Sponsor of the 2023 conference and actively supports planning under new leadership by The University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP).

GLAF 2018 was co-hosted by the GLISA and the American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP). The 3rd Great Lakes Adaptation Forum brought together practitioners and scholars from across the Great Lakes region of Canada and the United States for 3 days of sharing climate adaptation and resilience solutions and products in an engaged learning program. Exciting, high energy sessions included speakers, working groups, panel discussions, and many opportunities for interaction and collaboration.
