Overview:
Named after Oolite, a type of limestone found in Indiana, Oolitic is located south and slightly west of Indianapolis. This area is an active mining town, with some of the largest limestone quarries in the world operating directly north of the town. The Salt Creek river directly borders the eastern side of this area, with other small water bodies scattered throughout the terrain.
Generally, this area has hot and humid summers, with days over 90°F occurring about two weeks of the year. The area also experiences cooler winters, and days below freezing (32°F) should be expected regularly throughout the season. Most precipitation typically falls during the summer months and peaks in May, and the least falls during the winter. Days with extreme precipitation events occur sporadically with a total of around one week per year.
