Overview:
Situated near the geographic center of Lower Michigan, Alma is a city surrounded by fertile farmland along the Pine River. Distanced from Lakes Michigan and Huron, temperature variations are larger than in some areas of Michigan. Lake-effect snowfall occurs less often as well, with Greenville, MI receiving nearly twice the amount of annual snowfall only 40 miles to the southwest of Alma.
Normal precipitation varies little from month to month during the growing season, with 3.40 to 3.50 inches falling during May, June, August, and September with amounts between 2.75 and 3.10 inches in April, July, October, and November. While annual normal precipitation is similar to locations closer to Lake Michigan, winter precipitation is lower due to lesser amounts of lake-effect snow.
