GLISA CLIMATOLOGIST PRESENTS AT DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ WORKSHOP FOR WATER STEWARDSHIP
On July 17th, GLISA Climatologist Omar Gates presented on his career path at a water education workshop for Detroit middle school teachers. Part of a larger EPA-funded project ––“Creating Great Lakes Stewards and Promoting Healthy Urban Watersheds in Detroit”–– the workshop focused on enhancing students’ connections to Detroit’s watersheds and developing their sense of water stewardship.
As a speaker on the “Natural Resources Career Role Models” panel, Gates spoke about his path to climatology and his role in GLISA. He highlighted the importance of teaches’ influence on their students’ success and fielded questions from the 15 science and social science teachers in attendance.
