Overview:
Gaylord, the county seat of Otsego County, is 35 miles east of Grand Traverse Bay, 60 miles west of Lake Huron, and in the heart of Michigan’s “Snow Belt.” Hartwick Pines State Park is approximately 28 miles to the south and is one of the last remaining stands of old-growth virgin Eastern white pine forest. Other prominent state and national forests surround Gaylord, and the nearby terrain is approximately 60% covered by forest.
Gaylord rarely experiences days above 90°F. However, on average the area experiences 164 days below freezing during the year. Precipitation is evenly distributed throughout the year with highs coming in the spring and fall. There are large seasonal differences in temperature with summers being hot and often humid and winters being very cold.
